A New Feline Calicvirus

There is a new strain of Feline Calicivirus that is responsible for a severe upper-respiratory type infection in cats and kittens. It is referred to as Virulent Systemic Feline Calicivirus (VS-FCV). Vaccines used previously do not provide immunity against this new strain of infection. Fort Dodge Co. has recently released a new vaccine to prevent this new strain. VS-FCV vaccine is now available at most animal hospitals. Call your veterinarian for information about vaccinating your cat against this severe virus.
